What is an affiliate?

An affiliate marketer is someone who uses the internet to make money online. They use something like "word of mouth" advertising. When you think highly of a certain product, you refer your website visitors to your "affiliate's" site. If the visitor becomes a customer of your affiliate, the affilate pays you a "thank-you" or referral fee. In a nutshell, affiliate marketing uses one site to drive traffic to another.

Do you need a website?

Not necessarily, but it certainly would be helpful. Some affiliate programs will accept you into their program if you market their company through email. However, I highly recommend considering building a website.

Ideal steps to implementing an Affiliate Program.

1. Build a website with quality content.
2. Apply to an ad program (AdSense, AdBrite, etc.).
3. Apply to the best Affiliate Programs.
4. Add more content and the affiliate links to your website.
5. Keep adding quality content to your website to draw more traffic.

Example of how you can make money with an Afflilate Marketing Website

Once you have your content written, you now apply to affiliate programs that are a match for your site. One example is coffee. Peet's Coffee has an affiliate program. They have a very interesting history, and excellent coffee! You could write about Peet's, and post some of their ads on your site. If someone surfs your site, clicks on their ad, goes to their site and buys coffee, you get paid! Just imagine all fo the gourmet food and drink programs you can participate in.
